Joyce A. (Birkin) Frantz, 93 years of age, of Lincoln, formerly of Beatrice passed away Monday, November 8, 2021 in Lincoln. She was born on July 19, 1928 at Wiley, Colorado (Prowers County), and was the oldest of three children born to Rev. Leonard and Mabel Mae (Hoffman) Birkin. As a child Joyce lived in Wiley, Colorado, Lincoln, Nebraska, Bakersfield, California and Independence, Kansas.She graduated from Summerfield High School in Summerfield, Kansas with the class of 1946.Joyce attended McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas.On August 24, 1948, she was united in marriage by her father to Marion Frantz in Haxtun, Colorado. To this union two children, Gary and Vicki, were born.After Marion’s graduation from college in 1949, she and her husband moved to Beatrice, Nebraska, where Joyce worked in the office of the Central Electric & Gas Company from 1950 to mid-1952.After the birth of their two children, she stayed home to care for the children, but took part in the PTA activities and offices during their school years.Joyce also spent several years working as a 4-H club leader and gave piano lessons in her home.She enjoyed traveling with her family, gardening, collecting butterflies, drawing, painting, and decorating her home.

Joyce is survived by herson, Gary Frantz of Beatrice; daughter, Vicki Jackson and husband Dan of Lincoln; 4 grandsons, Scott (Renee) Vrtiska and their children Roanin, Cora and Adrienne of Sweden, Mike Vrtiska and wife Jamie of Cook, NE; Eric (Stacey) Vrtiska and their children Alexa and Sidney of Auburn, NE; Brian (Micaela) Vrtiska and their children Hunter and Emma of rural Beatrice, sister-in-law Joanne Birkin of Raleigh, NC; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marion, a brother, Vergean Birkin and a sister, I. Yvonne (Duane) Dell.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, November 15, 2021 at the Church of the Brethren in Holmesville, Nebraska with Pastor Mary Beth Tuttle officiating. Masks are required for those attending the services, unless you have health conditions that make mask wearing a problem. Interment will immediately follow services at the Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 PM to 8 PM on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Church of the Brethren in care of the mortuary.
