Just for fun,(kind of like the farm show magazine reviews/best buy/worst buy/)....
Add your pto tractor driven snowblower to the list if its not listed and rate its good and bad points...If It is listed, leave a comment behind your brand. How it blows good or bad, far or near, takes tons of horsepower or pulls easily in deep snow ect.
I was looking through the classified and can hardly believe how since it snowed heavily in December, everyone has pulled their old and new blowers out of the weeds and are trying to sell them.It amazes me how many companies built snow blowers over the years.
...........Ill go first. #1 Luckey mfg single stage .....The whole fan and auger are one big spiral. .THAT is the snowblower I use and the only one I have ever owned..... 24 inches deep of dense blown and drifted snow is more than it can handle for the most part.It doesnt seem to move more snow at 150 horse power than it does at 80 hp hitched in front of it. It needs a slow reverse and HIGH RPMS ON THE 1000 PTO shaft and only throws real dense snow 15 -20 foot off to the side AT BEST. Powder fluffs along side of the machine to the ground. At 80 hp the shearpins dont last too bad as long as they are double nutted. At 150 hp you have to be carefull not to overload as it can easily shear them off in an instant. The nice part about the blower is it was CHEAP to purchase new, 1450$ 20 plus years back or so.Also doesnt leave any annoying piled snow in front of it when you get done with a pass and it can and will dig into a hard snow pile but ti takes a LOT of power to blow hard snow. Its Shamrock green ,3 pt mounted.Built in Minot ND.I alwasy wondered if a 2 stage blower is more efficent or not adn be worth it to get a different one fo jsut keep this.????? What do you guys think?
Hope I didnt list too many doubles, but some are different configurations with the same brand name.

A simple, strong well built direct drive two stage blower. The blower wheel is direct driven off the 540 PTO shaft, the only power that runs through gear box and chain drive is the few HP needed to run the two gathering augers, so not near the wear and maintenance of a chain / gear box driven main blower / rotor.. Strong and heavy built, incredibly tough powder coat paint. ours is the 9 ft, twin auger model. Parts warehouse is only 1 state away for us.

I looked up the parts manual for the AU LLC double auger snowblower. It looks like most other snowblowers with the blower fan mounted on the gearbox through shaft. Perhaps yours is different. I would be curious to see some pics of the drive arrangement.

Their pretty much the way you describe it, well built, heavy built and well finished. Gear box serves only as a hanger bearing for the blower wheel.
Much more reliable and less wear than the old single stage Lucke blower it replaced that had full engine power through the gear box gears and drive chain, plus being able to blow snow twice as far..

Jon Hagen: I think most 2-stage blowers I have been around are direct drive straight through the gear box, the gear box is just there to drive the augers. At #2400, these do look like a very heavy built machine, but I don't think the design is inherently different. I bet that 40" diameter blower will really move snow, that is the largest diameter blower I have seen in a 2-stage machine!

Yes, it will really wing the snow a long ways, as that blower generates a lot of air stream to blow snow. If not necessary to move snow as far, it actually helps to throttle back a few hundred rpm, that decreases ground speed a bit and makes the blower take less power. It works well on our NH bi directional TV 6070 with it's 4 wd and hydrostatic drive.allows you to creep slowly forward in deep hard drifted snow .

On a 15 speed JD 4450 power shift, low reverse was sometimes not slow enough.

Can you tell us how you like the snowblast and how it works? That is a unique design. Ive never seen one of those working.Do they really digest a LOT of snow? And so they throw it up high and far?

I don't personally have one but know someone who does. Sounds like they take ALOT of power but will move a ton of snow.

I have a wildcat which is a snowblast predecesor. Mine is 8.5' with triple fans and triple shutes. It will eat through anything. Problem is it takes power! 180hp fwa is not enough when chewing through 48" of packed snow. I'd like to put a 230-250ho cvt on it and see what it would do. It has 3x the capacity of the farm king 8' I used to have.

It doesn't blow a lsibglw large stream out. Like what was said what comes out is powder. With that being said it still blows pretty decent. Here are a couple of pics blowing through a 4' plowed up bank.

We have a Melhaff Mfg blower which became the Wildcat. It is also a triple fan. It does not throw snow as far as the newer two fan models since they have a higher blade tip speed, but it has never been a problem. If it's cold what comes out is basically dust and wind will carry it away. I prefer to use it right as the wind is dying down from a storm.

These blowers are similar a Fair which is the only other kind I would want. I think the guy who started Fair originally worked with Wildcat or Melhaff. To run these blowers best you need a lot of HP, a CVT/IVT transmission, or better yet both.

We have had it on multiple tractors over the years including a 4440, 4450 PS, 7810, 8220, and most recently a 7520 with IVT. The 8220 did well with it because it had power, but the 7520 with only 125 hp is actually better suited for the job because you can go so slow.

We have had a Fair 954A since 2010 and have been very happy with it. I run it with a 9130 that is probably putting out 250+ PTO HP. It runs fine as long as the snow is less than 2' deep, if it is deeper I need to stop occasionally and let RPM's build up again, 1st reverse is just too fast. Once the first pass is done, then I can take a partial cut and keep the PTO at 1000 RPM. It will throw the snow about 50' at 1000 RPM. The Fair and Temco Wildcat are very similar designs and do not use gearboxes. My Fair has two #80 chains that drive the impellers. This year I added a hydraulic top link to the 3 point so I can tip the cutting edge up when the ground is not frozen, and tip it down to cut through hard snow.

Steiner, not made any more but it will move snow. Its a double "V" VV with a truck axle running the paddles. Two chutes. It takes alot of horsepower but it moves alot of snow. Usually traction becomes my issue. Ive cut through 6 foot drifts with it. Its biggest prob is that it doesnt clean up a drive way very well. Usually only use it with 6+ inches and will scrape with a loader after it.
Here are pics of ours. http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=ttalk&th=83...

I know not a three point but this is a retired DOT snowblower that was used to open roads in the Cascade Mountains after being closed all winter. Our snowmobile club bought it to keep our snowmobile parking lot clear for us to get in it and not park on the road making the Forest Service upset. Will throw snow a long way and with the vertical augers and hydraulic swinging dividers can clean up a nice edge.

We used to have a McKee 620 single auger, back up with a manual spout for the 560 but with no cab blowing snow wasn't always so fun with different winds in the yard but better than the JD B with a Johnson Work-Horse loader with cable tilt. Also later had 4020 & the 966 on this McKee. As said before McKee & JD & later Inland were the same. In 1994 we bought a new Alloway SB-96 with 540 PTO with hyd ram turn spout, will blow 60' in air in all types of snow, it has double augers, mostly on a 4430, & now 4430 in for a shifting problem so put on 4640-got a 540 adapter. The Alloway was built in Fargo, ND later in the early 2000's Woods MFG bought out Alloway for the snowblowers & shredders & the equip got moved to ILL. Knock on wood-no big troubles. Allied maybe looks like some good blowers or Schulte. That Alloway cost $2496 brand new in 1994 & weighs 1850 lbs. Farm King is around here as well but built lighter than Woods. Have seen some Lorentz, Erskin. A few farmers bypassing blowers for front end loaders.
